No I did not buy a new Blythe. That is Emily in a blue bob wig I purchased from a PP cleanout. It arrived in the mail today and
I AM LOVING IT!

So far Emily, my first ever Blythe has had the most multiple transformations of all my Blythes so far.

Doll Story
I have to be honest. I'm starting to get a little sick of the fact that my Blythes are dressed better than I am. I would love this dress in my size! I mean I would love it! And I'm not sure I can justify spending money on stuff like this too often any longer. God, I didn't buy one pair of shoes all summer! It's true, I hate shopping for myself lately, can't stand the crowds and I really haven't found anything to wear that I love in a long time but this is ridiculous.

Yeah, this hair is staying. That is final. I'm really starting to like it a lot. A litte trimming and combing and a clip or two and Reya's personality started to pop out from under the curls. I'm getting her another pair of eye chips though. I'm hoping for something goldish.

Emily decided to try on Reya's human hair scalp last night around midnight. I am loving her boggle eyed transformation as well. I just bought her her a sort blue bob wig just to experiment with new hair looks for her since I removed her old scalp. That hair is fried from being dyed like four times now.

TO DIY or to Buy (or a little bit of both)

This last shipment of Blythe Doll items I've purchased has made me realize something really important. I really need to start making the things I can make myself, rather than pay to get them shipped over seas. I mean some of the stuff I get like that roll neck sweater is definitely far from being in my skill level to make at the moment. But I think I could probably pull off a simple crotchet hat if I tried. Not that I don't LOOOOVE Moshi Moshi. I really have never liked sewing very much so I will probably continue to buy from other more incredibly talented seamstresses than I. But I can knit and I am definitely going yo learn to crotchet and that means I should start to be able to make a lot of clothes on my own for the Fab Five.

I was just looking at this cute pearl necklace for Blythe on ebay and I realized, what the hell am I doing even considering buying this? I work like minutes away from the garment district. I can get a string of tiny pearls and make this myself? And who knows what else? I guess I'm also getting really sick of waiting on things in the mail. Since I usually order from Japan and the UK it's really annoying have to wait for things to arrive. I don't want to get too much ahead of myself here but my own etsy shop may not be too far down the road.

I still absolutely adore Reya without all the hair. I just love being able to see her beautiful face. I only have a little left to do to finish up her scalp but sometimes I think of getting her a cute little short wig. I don't know. I can't believe I'm still on the fence about this.

I got her these new sleight gray eye ships from ixtee. I really like them a lot. I'm still sewing the hair weft into her scalp. It's coming along okay and is a lot easier. than re-rooting it strand by strand.

I watched this morning and was brought to tears, not only at the random horror of a child having contracted breast cancer through environmental causes but also at the the wonder on her face when The dolls were brought out to her as a gift. To me, it's very rare, even in genuinely tragic situations that I see guests on morning news programs who aren't trained to either hold back their vulnerability or to somehow use it to manipulate the viewer's sympathies. Hannah is just a regular little girl facing the most unimaginable odds, a disease which is associated primarily with adult women, before she has even become and adolescent! But you can tell that her spirit and imagination are very much in tact. For me, spirit and imagination are fragile and empowering things that make life worth living.

Fall's Here...

And the Fabulous Five are getting chilly. Time to start building a Winter wardrobe. This will be my first Winter photographing Blythe. I hope to get a lot of amazing snow shots!

Re-rooting a doll scalp with human hair weft is proving to be quite the challenge. I now know the reason for thimbles. So as an alternative I am also seeking out professionals to commission this job out to. Zaola27 on flickr does mohair re-roots. Apparantly she also does other kind of special customs like this amazing Wonder Woman Blythe.

Reya and Sabine Meet Friends at Maracas

My friend and ex co-worker, Amanda, recently moved to Atlanta for her new job and was in town visiting this weekend. She's a fan and follower of my Blythe Blog and wanted me to bring them to brunch in the West Village this morning. I said I could only bring two and she chose these Reya and Sabine as the lucky winners. I have to say I think they were a hit, especially with EJ, the four year old of Amanda's friend Megan. She couldn't get enough. I could also say the same for a certain redheaded gentleman who was very adamant about trying to get Sabine to stand up independently on the table. I was really amused by all the activity. I think it's fascinating to observe how people react to Blythe Dolls and I don't think anything could be more fun for me than watching grown adults at brunch playing with my dolls like it was the most common thing in the world. Inebriation didn't hurt either.

On top of everything else, EJ was inspired to style Amanda's hair right there in the restaurant for free! What a privilege to watch her work! It was a really fun afternoon.

Now that Reya is finally whole I will be starting on the final step soon, her hair. I bought this Beverly Johnson hair piece from Apollo Beauty in Harlem last week. I think it looks okay but I'm also curious about a slightly lighter color as well. I dunno. As soon as I get my re-rooting hook, I'm starting on her scalp right away.
