Hamsa's in Tennessse!
Everyone gets to travel but me!!
Hamsa has officially arrived in Tennessee with Melly Kay for her first ever face-up! At least part of her has anyway. I sent her face plates, hair and eye mechanism by priority a few days ago and there she is on a pure neemo body! I love it!!
Look at her! She's so cute!! I love seeing her through someone elses lens. It really makes me realize how much truly love her! It also makes me realize that I need to try working with a Neemo body at least once. They're so expressive!
Got some exciting custom projects coming up this weekend. I'm really excited. I'll put up some picture this weekend! WOOT!

A Little More Bowie
Okay, so Mango Bowie is pretty much done. I finally got the guts to just whip out the MSC spray and coat her with a couple of light sprays to seal in the pastel make up and freckles I put on. I still have to put some gloss on her lips which I'm thinking about darkening a little bit.
The problem for me with customizing and color palette is that I can't have too many choices. If I don't have a clear idea of what I want the doll to look like on the outset I try too many things! I knew with Bowie, I wanted to stay in the citrus color spectrum though, which is why I got rid of the purple I ha under her eyes previously and went back to the orange color. The top lids are a mixture of lime green and lemon yellow pastels blended together. The freckles I did with a brown acrylic paint and a the tip of a very fine brush.
I have to say I like it but I want to try something a bit more dramatic for my next custom.
Next in line or Melly Kays girl who was shipped to me for an AA spray and Tangee who's annoying CCE body, I've decided to keep and spray as well. I have an idea for pale eye lashes on her as well. Not sure I'm putting lashes on Bowie since I really like her wide-eyed look especially after gaze correction.
OK! Gaze correction! You take your RBLs head apart which is easy as pie. They come apart in three pieces, face plate, back plate and dome. There is a bar that rests at the back of the eye mechanism and is held in with a small screw. it's white and usually called a t-bar. Each time you pull the string and the dolls' eyes change color, you hear a small click. That is the sound of the small ridges in the bar on the eye mechanism resting against the t-bar each time the string is pulled. It also controls the level of the gaze. If the t-bar is filed down a bit the gaze is lifted, which changes the expression and liveliness of the Blythe Doll in interesting ways.
I imagine that experimentation should be done in increments just to be sure you can examine subtle changes before deciding on more extreme ones. But in the event that you make the bar too short for your desired effect, you can always get a new one!

Zenzile taking a Shot
Thanks to Katja for taking this great shot of me taking pictures of Hamsa and Neige the two of my Blythe who I brought to the meet. I love these sorts of pictures and and have never ha one taken of me before. I'm very self conscious of the camera lately when I'm not behind it but I think this came out really nice. Check out the amazing view behind us. It was a great day for a meet.

Today's ( 2/20/2011) NYC Sewing & Crafts for Blythe Meet
This weekend's Blythe Meet hosted by Katja, AKA BlytheOwl on Flickr was so nice! Present, were Katja, her lovely daughter, Frida, Georgette, Katie Dickinson and Katie all who I've met before at previous larger meets. I met Monica, BlytheChic on Flicker (not seen here in the photo because she showed up later in the afternoon) for the first time. She told me how to do gaze correction on RBL Blythes by filing down the t-bar in the eye mech. I tried it when I got home and put Bowie back together and it works! This is why I love Blythe meets! For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about I will explain in detail in my very next entry.
I had heard about gaze correction for so long and had no clue how it worked. But I finally came out of the dark today when Monica explained it. Katie, (she's next to me in the pic and is Linda's lovely daughter. Linda couldn't make it today) is newly pregnant (hurray!) and leaving next week to live in Tokyo with her husband. I love talking film and camera shop with her. She always brings the coolest plastic cameras and she and her husband process their own negatives, something which she had convinced me I can do as well and which I am now totally psyched about! I will miss seeing her at meets but can't wait to see her pictures in Tokyo!
We knit, crotchet, took pictures, worked on Blythe projects and talked until the evening. It was really great. This was my first trip ever to Roosevelt Island and it could not have been an easier trip from where I live in Harlem. Plus the community room in Katja's building is a total dream for Blythe meets! It's fully furnished, brand new, has a kitchen, large flat screen tv which thankfully never got switched on, and a wonderful view! It will definitely not be my last time there.

My sweetie gave me the best Valentines Day gift ever this year! He gave me a fish eye lens! I could hardly believe it! I wasn't expecting it all. We order for each other from long Amazon wishlists so that even if we don't know what we're getting, we're sure to like what we get since we picked from a wishlist each of us has compiled. But I still never dreamed he would get me any kind of camera equipment. And I've really been wanting a fisheye lens for a while. I can't wait to take it outside, maybe this weekend!

So thanks to Mieke Linden's fabulous balloon dresses I was inspired to do some experimenting of my own with gold and silver balloons I bought at Party City this weekend! They're nowhere near as finished and tailored looking as Mieke's but I do love the way they came out and I'm having lots of fun working with them. I'd say I used no more than three balloons each on Trixie and Zaltana's dresses shown above so they're not so layered and draped as they could be. I love how sexy they are and how easily they seem to pass for a different kind of material. I hope to do more this weekend. Obviously they're not re-wearable and are good only for the length of a photo shoot but that keeps things pretty interesting because I don't have otption really to do the same eaxact dress twice. Let's see where it goes.
