Abbey Bominable

My first and possibly last Monster High "Abbey Abominable" arrived at the beginning of this week! It's so nice to order a doll and get her so quickly when you've been in a bit of a mood lately. It's doll therapy and it never fails. LOL!!

So, I have to say that I'm really loving Abbey's color block pastel hair with thin gold ribbon strands throughout. It's so disco and I love just about anything that is reminiscently 70s. It's one of the reasons I was drawn to this particular Abbey release. That and the fact that she has bangs which I think go a long way towards off setting her wide jawed two fanged under bite in a very flattering way that was hard for me to take in the earlier releases where she has no bangs.

The "Picture Day" release of Abbey Abominable appears to have some cute accessories but unfortunately I have no first hand knowledge of these since I bought her loose and nude on eBay. It was the cheapest one and I'm trying to remain within a budget. I never obsess over their stock anyway because I have plenty of Girl Planet MH gear for them to wear that I like better. I think in this case the only stock piece I miss are the shoes.

One disappointing thing I found about "Picture Day" Abbey's hair is that it is significantly thin and shed a bit while I was combing it. In addition I had to do a bit of trimming on her ends because it's was kind of a wild mess down there. Other than I'm really enjoy playing around with her look and incorporating her into my present MH family.

There are two more MH releases that are blowing me away which I just have to have. I've had my eye on the fierce "Ghouls Rule" Clawdeen for months since last year.  I was on the fence for a bit but after seeing how amazing she looks in close ups, I know that she's next on my wishlist for acquisition in the near future. She would be the third MH Clawdeen in my collection.

"Create a Monster" Blob Girl

The second MH release I need is "Blob Girl," part of the "Create a Monster" line which I believe I saw for the first time last week on Pinterest. The one I saw is a custom by Retrograde Works on flickr but the stock girl is pretty amazing in her own right. The entire body is this ambitiously fantastic, translucent like sparkly pink plastic, with a retro styled pink blob bob helmet of hair. I think it's great choice in design for a blob like interpretation that's still pretty, and yet true to the "Blob" identity. It's a total departure in design from anything I've seen Mattel execute previously with a Monster High line and I love it. Every time I see her I fall in love.

10/365 ADAD

A 365 photo challenge if anything, even if it's of a stone every day in a different location every day for a year is always, well... a challenge.

For me, the photos I take represent for more than what is recorded within the designated frame space. I look at a photo I've taken and I can remember details about what kind of day it was, how I was feeling, what I was attempting in the shot as opposed to how it actually turned out, or if anything significant, wonderful or bad happened that day. For me, all photos are a kind of map of things which one cannot see, which are sometimes suggested and expressed and sometimes consciously or unconsciously omitted.

The last time I attempted a Blythe 365 was almost a year ago with Reya. It was a bit of a disaster as the idea of photographing her everyday for a year brought up some unexpected unforeseen anxiety issues in me. I mean on bad days the idea that you have to take a photo of something that normally makes you happy can be really daunting. For me it also feels like an assignment and I instinctively recoil at the idea of something I love turning into anything that resembles a job. So that, among other things discontinued my first attempt at a 365 challenge. I was disappointed in myself but I felt I couldn't go on.

This new year of 2013, I have decided to attempt a 365 challenge again. Without much fanfare I decided to do ADAD or "A Doll a Day" 365 because at least I get to switch up a variety of dolls, of which I have no shortage, to photograph each day.
In this way I at least avoid a measure of boredom. The only thing I cannot avoid is well... life and things that John Lennon said happen when you're making other plans. But that's what makes it all interesting right? It is a challenge and I think I'm up to it.

When I look at a photo like the one above, I understand that it not only illustrates the theme of the 365 challenge, but also the random, unexplainable insanity that occurs weekly at my place of employment among many other things, that I prefer to keep to myself. That's what I will remember when I look at it.

Four sets of Monster High Twins

How did this happen? I never really noticed it before. I never intended to collect four sets of MH twins in different releases. Last night I was putting them together and wasn't surprised I had two sets but three? Four?

In addition to Jekyll and Hyde, my SDCC Ghoulia and one and a half Create a Monster Monster High sets (Bee Girl and Ghoul Girl) that makes a total of thirteen dolls in my collection. The only new releases I would be interested in getting is another Clawdeen, or maybe Howleen or my first Spectra Vondergeist in the "Ghouls Rule" set.

I can't say it's over yet so I just won't. I'll just enjoy collecting until I run out of space in my bedroom. LOL! Kidding!

HAPPY NEW YEAR MY FRIENDS!!!

The second in my series of Middie Minaj Customs and my first custom in the New Year will require a completely re-rooted straight blonde saran scalp, pale white eye shadow, some fun new make-up techniques, and custom eyelashes. I have never rerooted a Middie Scalp so It's going to take a bit more time than the first custom but I'm super excited to see how she turns out so stay tuned for updates.

Now that I think about it I would really prefer her hair to be jet black like Punkaholic People but I will reserve judgment until I see the doll. Other than that I'm very psyched because I'm very sentimental about the Punkaholic look. and I love her outfit. She could definitely be one of my next custom Middies! But I will be keeping this one! LOL!
