Retraction

I take back everything I said in the Cons section I wrote about the arrival of Ramona Rae, my newest Blythe Doll clone. I was just on ebay checking out other Blybes (ahem!) and basically every one I click on is being sold bt the same seller. The description below is listed in large letters on the description of each one. So in all honesty, I knew what I was getting and just forgot all about this description.


"For sale is brand new Blybe / Basaak color changing eyes doll. She stands 12” tall. She is medium quality doll. Her eyes change colors with the pull of a sting attached to the back of her head . She can move her arms & legs & head. She can twist & turn her waist. She is wearing hand made outfit made by my freind. She comes with doll stand, her two original outfits, and a pair of ballet shoes. Her 2 extra outfits are not showed in the listing but they will be included in the box. 

To be honest, most Blybe & Bassak dolls I have received from all sources recently are shaky on their feet. Her hip joints are loose and that makes her wobble. But this problem is quicky fixed when rubber bands are put around her hip joints. I will have this done when I ship her. I will also put cute panties on her so the rubber bands do not show."

The seller really was great, keeping me and three other unfortunates whose Blybes went temporarily wayward updated on anything they happened to hear or get in writing from the post office. So cheers! I sure hope that doesn't happen again because I think I want another one!

Shhhhhh????

Okay, ummm I think I may have just found a Blythe Doll Goldmine on ebay. I can't really say where it is but I'm certainly not the only one who knows about it since I learned about it first from a flickr contact who recently received an order of Blythe Doll face plates only! Can you imagine? She was very gracious to tell us the name of the seller but even then, I couldn't find her on ebay. But just now, while I was doing a search for Neo Blythes, I found the seller totally by accident. Listen, I have combed ebay thoroughly countless times in the past and never found any Blythe Doll for under a hundred, not even used! But now I've found like five! Okay, I need to calm myself! All I see are customizing oppotunities and I'm losing my mind just thinking about it. Also, I'm pretty sure I'm about to buy one right now.
*SIGH*  Okay. I'll report back later.

The Last Blythe (Punkaholic)

So last night, in an auction on ebay I won, my very last Blythe Doll. It took very careful planning and strategy. I was watching it for days. It was the only one of it's kind up for auction with free shipping and I couldn't believe how low the bids were even up until the last minute. I made my move in the last 8 minutes or so.

She is "Punkaholic Blythe" and I have quietly wanted her for the longest time now. I have staked her out for over a month, maybe more. I even have a name for her already. Hamsa, which is Sanskrit for "I am that."
She is the absolute first Takara Blythe I have ever purchased who is brand new, NRFB (Never removed from box) and with all her stock! DUDE! Not only do I adore her but her stock is kick ass. I have included the description of her as written on the Takara Tomy website.

Blythe is ready to rock like never before! A white short-sleeved blouse is dressed up with a tartan tie, which matches her bondage pants and miniskirt. Her white faux-leather belt is printed with studs and accented with a silvery metal chain. White shoes match her belt, and mismatched earrings (a star dangles from her left ear, and there's two studs in her right ear) add a punk touch. Best of all is her perfectly scaled guitar, complete with strap! A stand is included to display this black-bobbed darling live and in concert on your doll shelf.

She has a guitar!!!! And she has earrings which I have been dying for so she can share them with Reya whose ears are also pierced!!! YEA! I can't wait to meet her!

Shirelle Returns

How did I not even mention that I won a vintage "First Black Barbie" on ebay? I won her before I even thought about bidding on the fourth Blythe Doll! She is a NRFB (Never removed from box) genuine first Black Barbie Doll that Mattel ever released. She is also the first Barbie my mom ever gave me, the first I've ever owned, and I adored her! I named her Shirelle because she reminded me of one of those sexy, black singers from the 50s and 60s. I guess subconsciously I was also thinking of the Shirelles. I was only around ten years old or so. What the heck did I know about the Shirelles? It was no doubt the influence of my dad playing Hal Jackson's Sunday Morning Classics every weekend that had developed a fondness in me for those fifties all female group singers.

The picture above on the bottom is of the First Black Barbie's head on the body of another doll. It's very clever and a better picture than the top stock photo on ebay but the one I will be getting is the one in the ebay picture. I just got an email today from the very nice lady I won it from telling me it was shipped out in the mail.

I remember not so much playing with Shirelle (she didn't have any friends yet) as much as posing her and placing her trophy-like on high objects in my room. Her arms were perfect for placing on her hips and in her hair. I liked that a lot. It was a bit awkward at first for me, this first encounter with a mature play doll. All my dolls were babies and stuffed toys. None were women with curves, breasts, sexy gowns and high heels. The messages of a womanhood years in the making began to speak softly through Shirelle's doe-like eyes. And of all the black Barbies that Mattel created afterward, none other ever looked quite as unique as this one or captured my heart in quite the same way.

MOLLY'S HERE!

Her face is shinier, her boobs are more matte, her underwear is fancier and her hair is sort of flat and greasy looking but that changes when you comb it. The click in her eye mechanism is more audibly pronounced when you pull her string. Her cheeks are rosier and her legs bend more readily.

Sorry about the yellowness of the pictures. I didn't get to open the box until I got home in the evening so I had to take them under those yucky florescent lights. More to come.

She arrived first thing this morning!!!! I'm dying! She arrived from Hong Kong and was placed on the reception desk in front of me before 10:00AM. The box is a little bit crushed from being under the weight of other boxes I imagine but she appears to be in perfect condition. She is my first vintage, Takara Blythe. Emily was made in China but was sold here in the US under the Ashton Drake Hasbro label. But Molly is officially from China. Blythes made by Takara, the first company to replicate the initial run of Blythe Dolls made by Kenner were only sold in Hong Kong I believe. I could be wrong. A complete history of Blythe is here. However, interestingly enough, Molly is a "Pow Wow Poncho" theme Blythe (ridiculous name isn't it?) just like Emily so they're twins!

Ok, I'm like screaming internally because I can't wait to get her home. You have no idea how much price comparison shopping I had to to, not to mention rationalizing with my poor lady budget the legitimacy of buying this doll which I have to say was a bit more expensive than Emily. She's brand new but was sold naked, which brought the price for a Takara Blythe down considerably less than usual but still,this is going to be it for awhile. I'm addicted but not crazy. Okay, I'm a little crazy but I do know when to stop. I hate being broke.

Molly certainly need never concern herself over clothes. I've got a veritable Blythe wardrobe waiting for her. She'll be styling in no time.

As I mentioned before, my next Blythe will be purchased solely for my Black Blythe Project and that may not happen for several months. Incidentally, I named this Blythe Molly because of a girl I knew at Bard College named Molly who had long red hair that I loved as well. I'm a big fan of red hair. I think it's many variations are beautiful but I think it also has something to do with the deviant behavior associated with it particularly among white women back centuries ago who were often put to death in the dark ages simply for being born with red hair. It was automatically assumed that the they were more susceptible to evil because of it. Just another destructive reaction of patriarchal dominated rule to an inbred fear of the power of beauty, a beauty so bewildering as to provoke sanctioning through death sentencing; another way to effectively cut down the population of female resistance to conformity at the time. So it was that simple. I started calling her Molly maybe before I even bought her. I just can't believe she's here already. I was being so cautious about not counting the days until she arrived based on the E.T.A. quoted to me by the Ebay seller. One day after my birthday!!!! Uncanny.
